About
What Kitan is
Kitan is a collection of anime and manga illustrations, described entirely by the people who use
it.
Think of it as a reputation-weighted wiki: nobody owns the description of a post, not
even the
person who uploaded it.
Every attribute of a post is a vote, weighted by the voter's power. That goes for its
tags, its
rating, the age group of its characters, its sources, and even whether it should stay on the
site at all.
If someone adds a tag or a rating you disagree with, you don't need to ask anyone to fix it:
vote against
it, and the post changes when enough people agree with you.
Power and energy
-
Power is your reputation. You earn it when others agree with what you contribute,
like when
your post is upvoted or a tag you added gets votes, and you lose it when they disagree. The
more power
you have, the more your votes count: a new account's votes count for 5%, and with 500 power
they
count for about 80%.
-
Energy is spent on every action and refills over time, completely in about half an
hour.
It keeps any single person, or bot, from flooding the site.
-
A post shows what the votes add up to. Tags most people agree on are shown, tags voted down
are
hidden, and a post with enough deletion votes is taken down.
History & Motivation
The Kitan project is a fork of
indexmania.org
(archive),
a project focused on searching the web using tags, and to index information by the users. Now
instead of
websites, we index East Asian manga/anime illustrations instead.
Yes, this is a
booru, even though it wasn't
supposed to copy the idea.
The goal is for the website to run itself: moderated democratically by the people using it, within
the guidelines.
This is a rather complicated task to achieve.
This is a passion hobby project.
Searching
Unlike your typical search engine, you search using tags that describe the images you want to see.
If you would like to see images of Nachoneko outdoors in a scenery looking at you, you can do that
with the following query:
nachoneko, scenery, outdoors, looking at viewer
Filters can be mixed in with the tags, for example:
scenery, ratio:16:9, width>:1920, sort:votes
Other filters include
rating:,
uploader:,
color:,
before:,
after:, and
original,
edited or
ai.
Getting started
Signing up
here is very quick and easy. Then go to Submit to post an image.
This is important because the site only has 10644 posted images.
New accounts can upload with the automatic and semi-automatic methods. Uploading manually unlocks at
40 power.
